The Gestalt Art Therapy centre is a Brisbane based centre offering a series of workshops to introduce the participant to the effective utilisation of art tools and gestalt therapy processes in working with clients, groups, couples and families who may be seeking a more creative approach to personal development. It's all about living fully & creatively in the present moment..
The directors of the centre are Yaro Starak and Gemma Garcia. Both have extensive work and teaching experience that spans more than 30 years in many countries, and involving both English and Spanish speaking students.
This first course, INTRODUCTION TO THE GESTALT ART THERAPY EXPERIENCE is made up of three week-ends covering twelve modules. Each module has both a theoretical component (experienced on line) and practical, face- to- face experiential workshops which are held at the Centre.
There are going to be a series of exercises that will give the student ample opportunity to apply the theory to actual practical experience in the group. All tools are designed to give the student a direct capability to work with clients using gestalt and art methods and skills.
Each workshop week-end the students will be able to ‘sample’ of art therapy, for example, painting, music, mime, sand play, mandalas, movement, drama, phototherapy and so on. The introduction course is for counsellors, therapists, social workers, artists and any one interested in learning new way to apply art and gestalt in their work.
In addition, we are introducing a new model of working called SICAIDIR. It is a method of application clear processes in each therapy session combining Gestalt and Art.
Finally, this introduction to gestalt and art therapy is a unique form of therapy because it goes beyond the usual academic and theoretical medium and beyond the official gestalt training offered by the various institutes. To apply, please fill in the registration form that we shall send you after you write us an email wishing to participate. We shall include all the registration information for you to be able to reserve your place in this course. No artistic skills are necessary.

2 Workshops:
February 22&23
March 29&30
The workshop is for those working or training as social and community service providers, counseling or anyone wanting to explore, develop confidence, and further group facilitation skills.
The participants will be able to understand their unique style and gifts and to use them to their best advantage in the group environment.
The workshop is designed to offer an in depth understanding of the dynamics of group energy and gives a clear methodology to the theoretical basis of group work.
LEVEL 1:
INTRODUCTION TO GROUP WORK The theoretical principles and practices will be covered through experiential exercises, discussion and some personal exploration in group settings:
- The paradoxical theory of change.
- What sort of groups can get us into trouble and what to do to change and re-frame our difficulties into opportunities.
- The magic of role playing.
- How to begin group work.
THE UNKNOWN ASPETCS IN GROUPS We will explore the major aspects of the unconscious process of group work. Much of what goes on in groups happens ¨below the neck¨. Much of it is in the dance between our unconscious selves. This dance is what helps to make groups so exciting, scary and full of potential for transformation.
LEVEL 2:
THE PRACTICE OF GROUP LEADERSHIP The more we understand our own inner 'selves' and their interplay, the better facilitators we will be. Come prepared to know (and accept) yourself better!
This includes: - How to facilitate groups in any setting, getting to know and working on the fears and other self-limiting messages that hold us back as group facilitators
- Learning by facilitating a small group and receive feedback.
