2018, November 24 & 25, Sand Play Therapy a Gestalt approach

Sand Play is a powerful tool/technique in therapy sessions with Adults, Couples, Families, Children.
Discover how to work this tool in a Gestalt Art Therapy approach

What? Playing with sand could be therapeutic?
Yes! More than you think! We promise you!
Sand Play Therapy
Play therapy is a form of counseling or psychotherapy that uses symbolic play to communicate with and help people, especially children, to prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges. This helps them to move towards better social integration, growth and development, emotional modulation, and trauma resolution.
Play therapy can also be used as a tool of diagnosis. A sand play therapist observes a client playing with toys (play-houses, pets, dolls, etc.) to determine the cause of the disturbed behavior. Because trauma is often debilitating, directed sand play therapy works to create change in the present, without the lengthy healing process often required in traditional sand play therapy. According to the psychodynamic view, people (especially children) will engage in play behavior to work through their interior issues and anxieties. According to this viewpoint, play therapy can be used as a self-help mechanism for adults as well.
What you will learn:
  • Learn how to understand the meaning of symbols as therapy tools
  • Use creative methods to enhance your therapy practice with Sand Play tools.
  • Learn how to incorporate the symbolic imagery into the therapy session
  • Find the way of facilitating sand play figures and understand their unconscious meanings.

2018, November 3, Art Therapy and the TESTS

Psychological testing is the administration of psychological tests, which are designed to be "an objective and standardized measure of a sample of behavior".
Discover how to use these tools in a Gestalt Therapy context.

TESTS
And ART THERAPY
A Gestalt approach

The Test could be divided in:

  • Psychometrics TESTS
  • Projective TESTS
Psychometrics TESTS
Psychometrics is a field of study concerned with the theory and technique of psychological measurement. As defined by the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), psychometrics refers to psychological measurement. Generally, it refers to the field in psychology and education that is devoted to testing, measurement, assessment, and related activities.
The field is concerned with the objective measurement of skills and knowledge, abilities, attitudes, personality traits, and educational achievement. Some psychometric researchers focus on the construction and validation of assessment instruments such as questionnaires, tests, rates, judgments, and personality tests. Others focus on research relating to measurement theory (e.g., item response theory; intraclass correlation).
Practitioners are described as psychometricians. Psychometricians usually possess a specific qualification, and most are psychologists with advanced graduate training. In addition to traditional academic institutions, many psychometricians work for the government or in human resources departments. Others specialize as learning and development professionals.
Projective TESTS
In psychology, a projective test is a personality test designed to let a person respond to ambiguous stimuli, presumably revealing hidden emotions and internal conflicts projected by the person into the test. This is sometimes contrasted with a so-called "objective test" / "self-report test", which adopt a "structured" approach as responses are analysed according to a presumed universal standard (for example, a multiple-choice exam), and are limited to the content of the test. The responses to projective tests are content analysed for meaning rather than being based on presuppositions about meaning, as is the case with objective tests. Projective tests have their origins in psychoanalysis, which argues that humans have conscious and unconscious attitudes and motivations that are beyond or hidden from conscious awareness.
How Gestalt Art Therapy works with TESTS
Gestalt Art Therapy Centre incorporates some tests into the training and Therapy sessions/Supervisions.
Tests like:
• House
• Rosebush
• Person
• Animal
The Gestalt ART Therapy approach put more emphasis in to the power of the symbols, the archetypes, the colours & shapes and by the client’s interpretation.
Tests combined with the Gestalt therapy theory, provides a fascinated tool/technique to support clients into the awareness, projections, responsibilities and offering to the client, a safe space where they may explore and integrate the therapy process here and now.
Participate at this short workshop and discover how to use these tests-tools-techniques, into your professional practice and even into your personal life.

Improve your skills working with traumas and early child painful history.
Discover ways to clear negative memories and blocks to your own growth
Find the way of facilitating sand play figures and understand their unconscious meanings.

Masks
Masks are worn for performance, entertainment, disguise, concealment or protection. They have been around since ancient times and have been used in ceremony, storytelling, and dramatic enactment. Making a mask invites you to explore the persona you reveal or conceal from the world. A mask also serves to enhance our awareness of who is behind the mask.
C.G.Jung wrote extensively about the concept of Persona and the various ways it manifests itself. He also proposed that there is a dark side to the personality, well-known to the field of psychology as the shadow. It includes both repressed, instinctual feelings and untapped potential. (Starak: Gold in the Shadow article) working with the mask helps to initiate an imagination-driven exploration of the self through role play, dramatic enactment, movement, or storytelling. Best of all, it is an approach that allows all the arts to meet in one place, making it both a very powerful intervention.
Mask making – All materials will be available to make your mask. We will develop experiments to enact our SELF behind the mask created.

Objectives
To discover our true inner being and authentic self.
Who will benefit from this work? – Anyone wishing to grow as a mature human and enable others to grow.
Methodology:
Therapeutic process – A Gestalt approach to enhance the process of being in the moment.
Enactment using different masks, drama therapy experiments.
The SICAIDIR model in Gestalt Art Therapy.
Practical experiments in working with the client.

Materials:
Construction of different types of masks.
White mask or blank ground of being.
Masks with recycled materials.
Creative use of masks.

Gestalt Therapy practice and Theory

Just be present... Here and now
This workshop is designed to enable the participant to establish a basic Intervention model that clearly describes the process of therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. This requires the participant to become familiar with the ‘phases’ of this relationship. After demonstrating some degree of comfort in this structure, the participant will be able to begin to develop his or her own ‘style’ of interventions and creative practice. Gestalt therapy was developed from various influences upon the lives of its founders during the times in which they lived, including: the new physics, Eastern religion, existential phenomenology, Gestalt psychology, psychoanalysis, experimental theater, as well as systems theory and field theory.

Learning objectives:
To examine specific therapeutic applications of Gestalt Therapy theory and explore practical interventions with individuals, couples, families and groups.
To examine the ways a therapist designs intervention strategy using the cycle of awareness model.
To enable the participant to develop a beginning personal style of ‘Gestalt Work’ and enhance his or her practice with clients.

At the workshop, we will extend the knowledge of:
- The power of the here and now and awareness in working with clients
- How to develop a Gestalt experiment to enhance and improve therapeutic outcomes.

ART THERAPY - A GESTALT APPROACH

Hello! Welcome to our creative therapy centre!

Here you will find everything related to Art Therapy using the Gestalt approach.

What is Art ?:

Art is genarally known as what is done by a person whose purpose is to express a message through symbols.

These symbolic tools can be music, paintings, sculptures, theater and so on.

What is Gestalt Therapy ?:

Gestalt therapy is a methodology within psychology that grew out of the research and work of the psychiatrist Dr.Fritz Perls and his wife Dr.Laura Perls.

These two professionals were coming from the psychoanalytic perspective and felt that this method was not enough to work with clients. Today we are clearly aware that no one single method can resolve the issues that involve a range of human suffering and growth.

Gestalt is a German word roughly meaning "Shape" or "configuration".

This concept is understood, in gneral terms, that all individual experiences are shaped by a figure and a background. As time goes on, and our needs change, the figure can become the background and vice versa. So in the client's experience, the figure is changing at all times from becoming a background and as the needs arise, the figure emerges seeking completion.

When we block or prevent this process, we become unaware and suffer. That is a part of the theoretical foundations of Gestalt therapy.

Gestalt therapy, therefore, is a "philosophy", a way of being in the world in the "here and now" and taking "response-aibility" without pushing the river. Thus life is a flow ..

What is GESTALT Art Therapy?

It is the sum of the two previous concepts, Gestal therapy and the use of tools we learn to use in art therapy.

Using the artistic tools and adding the gestalt language between client and psychotherapist we work jointly to decode the messages hidden in the intrinsic symbols representing the client's situation. The Psychotherapist accompanies the client in the process of "discovering" what is helpful and not analysing or interpreting, but suggesting and asking the client what it is he or she knows are the answers and supports client's need to discover the ncessary solutions.

WE ARE SURE THAT YOU WILL BE ATTRACTED by this new way of working with emotions, whether or not you are a professional psychologist or therapist, since many of the exercises can be used personally for your own growth.

Our work is done in Australia & Spain and other countries. We have given workshops and participated in conferences throughout the world. We are located in our offices at the Gestalt Art Therapy Centre in Brisbane -Australia.

BE HAPPY HERE AND NOW..... AND BE CREATIVE !
