2018, March 10 & 11, Working with Children in Therapy Sessions

2018, March 10 & 11, Working with Children in Therapy Sessions

Working with Children in Therapy Sessions. Explore how to use Sand Play, Drama, Music, etc in a therapeutic context.
  • Workshop AASW endorsed CPD hours

Any professional in the helping services who want to work with children must consider the child as a total system: the family, social, cultural and developmental factors influencing the child.
In addition, we must pay attention to the small or subtle details that the adults may not notice or may not understand about the child’s symptoms that are clearly obvious to a professional. For example, the manner we communicate with a child is to notice the pace, rhythm, and assimilation of the content, as well as the meaning attribution to the play experiments during the session. This is a way of developing trust and safety during the session by clarifying anything that is happening between the child and the adult therapist.

In this weekend, you will learn:
  • Discover how deep traumatic experiences in childhood affect the adult client.
  • Uncover the truth why most traditional work with child trauma does not work.
  • Learn how you can enable children to achieve positive feelings about their contacts with parents and society at large.
  • Practice art therapy methods and tools to encourage creativity in self and children.
  • How to be aware of the several ways you may be able to work with emotional wounds.
  • The way to work with children in a therapy session could be a little different than working with adults. Professional therapists need to adjust their therapeutic tools to the level of children.
What You Will Learn:
The basic principles and practices will be covered through experiential exercises, discussion, and some personal exploration.
This will include:
 • The paradoxical theory of change
 • The magic of role-playing with children
 • Being open to the unexpected – magic happens
 • Experiencing the Now: savouring and chewing
 • The importance of being specific and concrete
 • The creative void and change in the Here and Now

Also, we will explore an introduction to Gestalt work with children:
 •          Use of drawing and colours
 •          Sand play with children
 •          Music therapy
 •          Family sculpturing and more.

2018, February 24 & 25 Introduction to Gestalt Therapy

2018, February 24 & 25 Introduction to Gestalt Therapy

Just be present... Here and now
This workshop is designed to enable the participant to establish a basic Intervention model that clearly describes the process of therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. This requires the participant to become familiar with the ‘phases’ of this relationship. After demonstrating some degree of comfort in this structure, the participant will be able to begin to develop his or her own ‘style’ of interventions and creative practice. Gestalt therapy was developed from various influences upon the lives of its founders during the times in which they lived, including: the new physics, Eastern religion, existential phenomenology, Gestalt psychology, psychoanalysis, experimental theatre, as well as systems theory and field theory.
Learning objectives:
  • To examine specific therapeutic applications of Gestalt Therapy theory and explore practical interventions with individuals, couples, families and groups.
  • To examine the ways a therapist designs intervention strategy using the cycle of awareness model.
  •  To enable the participant to develop a beginning personal style of ‘Gestalt Work’ and enhance his or her practice with clients.

At the workshop, we will extend the knowledge of:
-          The power of the here and now and awareness in working with clients
-          How to develop a Gestalt experiment to enhance and improve therapeutic outcomes.

2018, February 17 & 18 Sand Play Therapy - a Gestalt approach with symbolism.

Sand Play Therapy - a Gestalt approach with symbolism.

Play therapy is a form of counseling or psychotherapy that uses symbolic play to communicate with and help people, especially children, to prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges. This helps them to move towards better social integration, growth and development, emotional modulation, and trauma resolution.
Play therapy can also be used as a tool for diagnosis. A sand play therapist observes a client playing with toys (play-houses, pets, dolls, etc.) to determine the cause of the disturbed behavior. Because trauma is often debilitating, directed sand play therapy works to create change in the present, without the lengthy healing process often required in traditional sand play therapy.  According to the psychodynamic view, people (especially children) will engage in play behavior to work through their interior issues and anxieties. According to this viewpoint, play therapy can be used as a self-help mechanism for adults as well.
What you will learn:
  • Learn how to understand the meaning of symbols as therapy tools
  • Use creative methods to enhance your therapy practice with Sand Play tools.
  • Learn how to facilitate and promote positive results with symbolic imagery
  • Uncover the reasons why your clients may resist verbal counseling.
  • Improve your skills working with traumas and early child painful history.
  • Discover ways to clear negative memories and blocks to your own growth
  • Find the way of facilitating sand play figures and understand their unconscious meanings.
  • Enable clients to discover their self-supports and deal with their life crises.

Day/s: February 17 & 18
Time
Saturday 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday 9:30 am to 4:00 pm

2018, February 10 Mandalas Art Therapy

Incorporating MANDALAS in Therapy Sessions- ART THERAPY

Life is a circular process. Our unresolved conflicts are also circular...like the universe, we are constantly circling around our being and growing.
In this one-day event, you will learn how to change the repetitive patterns that emerge in your life using/creating/ modifying mandalas in a symbolic way.
Learn how to practice this skill to be used with your clients and/or for your own personal growth.
Note: According to art therapist and mental health counselor Susanne F. Fincher, we owe the re-introduction of mandalas into modern Western thought to Carl Jung, the Swiss psychoanalyst. In his pioneering exploration of the unconscious through his own art-making, Jung observed the motif of the circle spontaneously appearing in therapy. At that moment the circle drawings reflected his inner state of being.
What you will learn:
  • The meaning of Mandalas in our lives.
  • How to enhance therapeutic results using the Mandala symbol
  • Enable the client to recognize the symbol as their guide
  • Discover the unconscious messages using the Mandala

ART THERAPY - A GESTALT APPROACH

Hello! Welcome to our creative therapy centre!

Here you will find everything related to Art Therapy using the Gestalt approach.

What is Art ?:

Art is genarally known as what is done by a person whose purpose is to express a message through symbols.

These symbolic tools can be music, paintings, sculptures, theater and so on.

What is Gestalt Therapy ?:

Gestalt therapy is a methodology within psychology that grew out of the research and work of the psychiatrist Dr.Fritz Perls and his wife Dr.Laura Perls.

These two professionals were coming from the psychoanalytic perspective and felt that this method was not enough to work with clients. Today we are clearly aware that no one single method can resolve the issues that involve a range of human suffering and growth.

Gestalt is a German word roughly meaning "Shape" or "configuration".

This concept is understood, in gneral terms, that all individual experiences are shaped by a figure and a background. As time goes on, and our needs change, the figure can become the background and vice versa. So in the client's experience, the figure is changing at all times from becoming a background and as the needs arise, the figure emerges seeking completion.

When we block or prevent this process, we become unaware and suffer. That is a part of the theoretical foundations of Gestalt therapy.

Gestalt therapy, therefore, is a "philosophy", a way of being in the world in the "here and now" and taking "response-aibility" without pushing the river. Thus life is a flow ..

What is GESTALT Art Therapy?

It is the sum of the two previous concepts, Gestal therapy and the use of tools we learn to use in art therapy.

Using the artistic tools and adding the gestalt language between client and psychotherapist we work jointly to decode the messages hidden in the intrinsic symbols representing the client's situation. The Psychotherapist accompanies the client in the process of "discovering" what is helpful and not analysing or interpreting, but suggesting and asking the client what it is he or she knows are the answers and supports client's need to discover the ncessary solutions.

WE ARE SURE THAT YOU WILL BE ATTRACTED by this new way of working with emotions, whether or not you are a professional psychologist or therapist, since many of the exercises can be used personally for your own growth.

Our work is done in Australia & Spain and other countries. We have given workshops and participated in conferences throughout the world. We are located in our offices at the Gestalt Art Therapy Centre in Brisbane -Australia.

BE HAPPY HERE AND NOW..... AND BE CREATIVE !
