2019 Sand Play Art Therapy February 16th, at our Centre

2019 Sand Play Art Therapy February 16th, at our Centre

Sand Play Therapy - a Gestalt approach with symbolism.
  • This workshop is 2019 AASW endorsed CPD hours
Sand Play therapy is a form of counselling or psychotherapy that uses symbolic play to communicate with and help people, especially children, to prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges. This helps them to move towards better social integration, growth and development, emotional modulation, and trauma resolution.
Sand Play therapy can also be used as a tool of diagnosis. A sand play therapist observes a client playing with toys (play-houses, pets, dolls, etc.) to determine the cause of the disturbed behaviour. Because trauma is often debilitating, directed sand play therapy works to create change in the present, without the lengthy healing process often required in traditional sand play therapy.  According to the psychodynamic view, people (especially children) will engage in play behaviour to work through their interior issues and anxieties. According to this viewpoint, play therapy can be used as a self-help mechanism for adults as well.
What you will learn:
  • Learn how to understand the meaning of symbols as therapy tools
  • Use creative methods to enhance your therapy practice with Sand Play tools.
  • Learn how to facilitate and promote positive results with symbolic imagery
  • Uncover the reasons why your clients may resist verbal counselling.
  • Improve your skills working with traumas and early child painful history.
  • Discover ways to clear negative memories and blocks to your own growth
  • Find the way of facilitating sand play figures and understand their unconscious meanings.
  • Enable clients (Adults, Children, Couples, Families) to discover their self-supports and deal with their life crises.

2019 Mandalas and Art Therapy February 9th at our Centre

2019 Mandalas and Art Therapy February 9th at our Centre

Jung recognized that the urge to make mandalas emerges during moments of intense personal growth. Their appearance indicates a profound re-balancing process is underway in the psyche.
The result of the process is a more complex and better integrated personality. The mandala serves a conservative purpose—namely, to restore a previously existing order. But it also serves the creative purpose of giving expression and form to something that does not yet exist, something new and unique. ... The process is that of the ascending spiral, which grows upward while simultaneously returning again and again to the same point. (Jungian analyst Marie-Louise von Franz, C. G. Jung)
Incorporating MANDALAS in Therapy Sessions- ART THERAPY
  • This workshop is 2019 AASW endorsed CPD hours

Life is a circular process. Our unresolved conflicts are also circular...like the universe, we are constantly circling around our being and growing.
In this one-day event you will learn how to change the repetitive patterns that emerge in your life using/creating/ modifying mandalas in a symbolic way.
Learn how to practice this skill to be used with your clients and/or for your own personal growth.

Note: According to art therapist and mental health counsellor Susanne F. Fincher, we owe the re-introduction of mandalas into modern Western thought to Carl Jung, the Swiss psychoanalyst. In his pioneering exploration of the unconscious through his own art making, Jung observed the motif of the circle spontaneously appearing in therapy. At that moment the circle drawings reflected his inner state of being.
What you will learn:
  • The meaning of Mandalas in our lives.
  • How to enhance therapeutic results using the Mandala symbol
  • Enable the client to recognise the symbol as their guide
  • Discover the unconscious messages using the Mandala

2017, October 15 PSYCHO- MAGIC and Rituals in Gestalt Art Therapy

2017, October 15 PSYCHO- MAGIC and Rituals in Gestalt Art Therapy

Psychomagic aims to heal psychological wounds suffered in life.

Psychomagic is the name of a therapeutic practice used by Alejandro Jodorowsky. The technique is very useful in psychotherapy. It combines art, Eastern philosophies (particularly Zen Buddhism), mysticism and modern psychotherapy to heal patients with emotional problems. The principle relies on the belief that the unconscious mind takes a symbolic act as a fact. So, a symbolic act could accordingly help solve some types of nonrational conflicts.
Psychomagic aims to heal psychological wounds suffered in life. This therapy is based on the belief that the performance of certain acts can directly act upon the unconscious mind, releasing it from a series of traumas, some of which practitioners of the therapy believe are passed down from generation to generation.
In this workshop, we will examine the method and practice of Psychomagic as a way of healing.

2017, September 9 & 10 Gestalt as a way of being

2017, September 9 & 10 Gestalt as a way of being

Gestalt a way of being Here and now!

This workshop is designed to enable the participant to establish a basic Intervention model that clearly describes the process of therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. This requires the participant to become familiar with the ‘phases’ of this relationship. After demonstrating some degree of comfort in this structure, the participant will be able to begin to develop his or her own ‘style’ of interventions and creative practice.
Subject objectives:
1. To examine specific therapeutic applications of Gestalt Therapy theory and explore practical interventions with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
2. To examine the ways a therapist designs intervention strategy using the cycle of awareness model.
3. To enable the student to develop a beginning personal style of ‘Gestalt Work’.

At the workshop, we will extend the knowledge of:
-          The power of the here and now and awareness.
-          The Gestalt experiment to enhance and improve being in the here and now.

2016, October 8 & 9 Working with CHILDREN IN THERAPY SESSIONS, Gestalt approach

2016, October 8 & 9

Working with CHILDREN IN THERAPY SESSIONS,
Gestalt approach

Any professional in the helping services who wants to work with children, must take into account the child as a total system: the family, social, cultural and developmental factors influencing the child.

In addition, we must pay attention to the small or subtle details that the adults may not notice or may not understand about the child’s symptoms that are clearly obvious to a professional. For example, the manner we communicate with a child is to notice the pace, rhythm and assimilation of the content, as well as the meaning attribution to the play experiments during the session. This is a way of developing trust and safety during the session by clarifying anything that is happening between the child and the adult therapist.

2016, March 5th Workshop: Using the TAROT in a Therapy Sessions

Why not?
Gestalt Art Therapy Centre is using creative ways to offer professional support to Psychologists, Counsellors, Therapists, Social workers and social service providers who are working with clients in therapy sessions.

Using the Tarot with a psychotherapeutic objective is novel and exciting.
The reason being that the cards are associated with the Archetypes (Jung) therefore the work is directly relevant to the discovery of the unconscious material indicated in the symbolic images in the cards.
We tend to project everything onto images before us. Our thoughts, feelings and emotions, and make decisions based on our selection of a specific card. In this workshop the participants will learn how to use Tarot cards as a technique to deepen their work with clients and find unconscious material in a Gestalt Art Therapy approach.

FACILITATOR:
Yaro Starak has extensive experience for over thirty years in group facilitation in Australia and in many countries around the world. Yaro has a warm, affirming manner and endeavors to help participants understand their unique style and gifts and to use them to their best advantage in the group situations. His perspectives in Gestalt Therapy ensure a deep understanding of the dynamics of group energy. His background in lecturing gives a clear methodology to the theoretical basis of group work. He is also the author of a new book on group work and art therapy.

Time:
 Saturday: 9:00am - 5:00pm

2016, February 27 & 28 workshop: Working with Groups

The workshop is designed to teach by experiential demonstration of a variety of ways to work with groups in any setting using Gestalt Art Therapy approach.
The workshop is for those working or training as social and community service providers, counselling or anyone wanting to explore, develop confidence, and further group facilitation skills. The participants will be able to understand their unique style and gifts and to use them to their best advantage in the group environment. The workshop is designed to offer an in depth understanding of the dynamics of group energy and gives a clear methodology to the theoretical basis of group work.

This workshop is an approved PD for professionals

Each participant will receive a free book : "Group Work Skills" by Yaro Starak

Day 1:

INTRODUCTION TO GROUP WORK.
The theoretical principles and practices will be covered through experiential exercises, discussion and some personal exploration in group settings:

 - How to begin group work.

 - The paradoxical theory of change.

 - What sort of groups can get us into trouble and what to do to change and re-frame our difficulties into opportunities.

 - The magic of role playing.

In addition we will explore THE UNKNOWN ASPETCS IN GROUPS. That is looking at the major aspects of the unconscious process of group work. Much of what goes on in groups happens ¨below the neck¨. Much of it is in the dance between our unconscious selves. This dance is what helps to make groups so exciting, scary and full of potential for transformation.

Day 2:

THE PRACTICE OF GROUP LEADERSHIP.
The more we understand our own inner 'selves' and their interplay, the better facilitators we will be. Come prepared to know (and accept) yourself better!

 This includes:
   - How to facilitate groups in any setting.
   - Getting to know and working on the fears and other self-limiting messages that hold us back as group facilitators
  - Learning by facilitating a small group and receive feedback.
  - Group reality development, including the 'dreaded' unconscious group collusion and the role of 'ghosts'.
   - Meeting and working with people's different 'selves' in a group.
  - Understanding the unconscious roles people can play, and get stuck in set ways.

ART THERAPY - A GESTALT APPROACH

Hello! Welcome to our creative therapy centre!

Here you will find everything related to Art Therapy using the Gestalt approach.

What is Art ?:

Art is genarally known as what is done by a person whose purpose is to express a message through symbols.

These symbolic tools can be music, paintings, sculptures, theater and so on.

What is Gestalt Therapy ?:

Gestalt therapy is a methodology within psychology that grew out of the research and work of the psychiatrist Dr.Fritz Perls and his wife Dr.Laura Perls.

These two professionals were coming from the psychoanalytic perspective and felt that this method was not enough to work with clients. Today we are clearly aware that no one single method can resolve the issues that involve a range of human suffering and growth.

Gestalt is a German word roughly meaning "Shape" or "configuration".

This concept is understood, in gneral terms, that all individual experiences are shaped by a figure and a background. As time goes on, and our needs change, the figure can become the background and vice versa. So in the client's experience, the figure is changing at all times from becoming a background and as the needs arise, the figure emerges seeking completion.

When we block or prevent this process, we become unaware and suffer. That is a part of the theoretical foundations of Gestalt therapy.

Gestalt therapy, therefore, is a "philosophy", a way of being in the world in the "here and now" and taking "response-aibility" without pushing the river. Thus life is a flow ..

What is GESTALT Art Therapy?

It is the sum of the two previous concepts, Gestal therapy and the use of tools we learn to use in art therapy.

Using the artistic tools and adding the gestalt language between client and psychotherapist we work jointly to decode the messages hidden in the intrinsic symbols representing the client's situation. The Psychotherapist accompanies the client in the process of "discovering" what is helpful and not analysing or interpreting, but suggesting and asking the client what it is he or she knows are the answers and supports client's need to discover the ncessary solutions.

WE ARE SURE THAT YOU WILL BE ATTRACTED by this new way of working with emotions, whether or not you are a professional psychologist or therapist, since many of the exercises can be used personally for your own growth.

Our work is done in Australia & Spain and other countries. We have given workshops and participated in conferences throughout the world. We are located in our offices at the Gestalt Art Therapy Centre in Brisbane -Australia.

BE HAPPY HERE AND NOW..... AND BE CREATIVE !
