LAST WORKSHOP 2011!!! ** PAINTING AND DRAWING IN THERAPY

CREATIVE TOOLS FOR PROFESSIONALS

ONE DAY WORKSHOPS

Saturday- 9:30 am to 05:00 pm

Brisbane- Qld- Australia

FEE FOR INDIVIDUAL WORKSHOP : $125

03th DECEMBER 2011

PAINTING AND DRAWING IN THERAPY.

Basic Information:

Gestalt art therapy is a recent phenomenon where we apply the art medium to develop a capacity of awareness in the client for the purpose of working through the issues that are presented. It is different from the more analytical approaches in that it emphasises personal responsibility, and that focuses upon the individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental and social contexts of a person's life, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation.

Practical experiments:

-Make an open ended drawing. Ask the client how he or she feels using lines, shapes, and colours. Therapy regarding the pictures is generally based on the presence and absence of many elements, such as use of colour, blending, and placement of the images on the paper.

-Draw a mandala from the card you have chosen with an oil pastel choosing a colour. The client is then asked to explain if there were any meanings, experiences, or related information related to the mandala they drew. This work is based on the beliefs of Joan Kellogg, who sees a recurring correlation between the images, pattern and shapes in the mandalas.

-Draw a person under the rain. Then ask the client to identify with this person: "How old is the person in your drawing? What is he or she doing? Who is this person in your life? And so on. This is a projective assessment and the person, the weather, the umbrella in the drawing represent different aspects of the client and the way the client feels about him or herself.

Materials:

All the materials will be available in the sessions.

TIME TESTED PRINCIPLES OF LIFE AND WORK

DESCRIPTION:

Emerging from the background of a society addicted to growth and success is an interest again in the teachings of Gestalt founders Fritz and Laura Perls and in the many refinements made by Gestalt trainers worldwide since their passing. Those familiar with Gestalt have missed having a community where they can share their deepest selves and those new to Gestalt are just discovering that this kind of contact is possible. This two day workshop will focus on Gestalt's timeless understandings and existential practices as well as the therapy itself. Amazingly, some indigenous teachings as well as those of Buddhism and Eckhart Tolle's work have a lot in common with Gestalt principles. In addition, this workshop will enable you to develop some beginning skills in how to work with individuals and couples using various approaches. Using the Sandplay method will enable the therapist to work with clients introducing symbolic language that opens up communication to new levels. Other methods of practice will be demonstrated such as the paradoxical theory of change, how thinking can get us into trouble, the magic of role playing, etc.

This workshop is approved as a PD for professionals by AASW.

METHODOLOGY:

The participants will be involved in the use of art tools such as figures and a sandbox in which to set up a world in miniature. In this manner, through free, creative play, unconscious processes are made visible in a three dimensional form and a pictorial world comparable to the dream experience. Through a series of creative images, we will learn how to resolve the issues that arise in the group or the individuals.

THE JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE

THE JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE

DESCRIPTION:

Life is a journey from the unknown (birth) to the unknown (death). While we live our life, we get entwined in a myriad of complex relationships and at times we feel at a loss or “lost” in a maze of so many tasks and responsibilities that the journey becomes like a search out of a labyrinth.

Historically labyrinths have appeared as designs on pottery or basketry, as body art, and etched on walls of caves or churches. The Romans built many primarily decorative labyrinth designs on walls and floors in tile or mosaic. Many labyrinths set in floors or on the ground are large enough that the path to the centere and back can be walked. They have historically been used both in group ritual and for private meditation.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

This weekend residential “retreat” will take us on a journey to the centre using art and symbols, movement and music as we walk through our “labyrinth”. We will turn aside from the highways and walk on footpaths that may lead us out of the maze of life.

4th to 6th November, 2011.

FAMILY CONSTELLATIONS
WORKSHOP

DESCRIPTION:

Family Constellations work is a systemic approach to therapy in groups developed by Bert Hellinger. It pays attention to the family system of the person working rather than focusing attention only on the person. If one element in a constellation is moving, the energy affects the whole family system that will seek a healthy balance. Also, the work of one person working affects the energy of the group participating in the workshop because many of the issues of the client touch similar issues of other group members. Constellation work is very powerful in solving the deep problems that are hidden in each person, couple or family.

FACILITATOR: Maria Dolenc

Maria Dolenc has her own unique style and passion for this work. She is a qualified Gestalt Therapist, Family Constellation Facilitator and Addictions Counsellor working with individuals, couples, families and groups. She has lectured on Holistic Counselling at Nature Care College and has worked in various capacities at South Pacific Private including Clinical Supervisor. Maria has been co-director at Gestalt Therapy Sydney and now devotes her time mainly to Family Constellation work. She has studied with leaders in the field both locally and overseas and has conducted workshops and practitioner training on this work in the Blue Mountains and Sydney regularly over the last few years.

METHODOLOGY:

The workshop is presented in a group situation using a gestalt-systemic and process oriented approach.

GESTALT ART THERAPY CENTRE
BRISBANE 2010
ART THERAPY - A GESTALT APPROACH

Hello! Welcome to our creative therapy centre!

Here you will find everything related to Art Therapy using the Gestalt approach.

What is Art ?:

Art is genarally known as what is done by a person whose purpose is to express a message through symbols.

These symbolic tools can be music, paintings, sculptures, theater and so on.

What is Gestalt Therapy ?:

Gestalt therapy is a methodology within psychology that grew out of the research and work of the psychiatrist Dr.Fritz Perls and his wife Dr.Laura Perls.

These two professionals were coming from the psychoanalytic perspective and felt that this method was not enough to work with clients. Today we are clearly aware that no one single method can resolve the issues that involve a range of human suffering and growth.

Gestalt is a German word roughly meaning "Shape" or "configuration".

This concept is understood, in gneral terms, that all individual experiences are shaped by a figure and a background. As time goes on, and our needs change, the figure can become the background and vice versa. So in the client's experience, the figure is changing at all times from becoming a background and as the needs arise, the figure emerges seeking completion.

When we block or prevent this process, we become unaware and suffer. That is a part of the theoretical foundations of Gestalt therapy.

Gestalt therapy, therefore, is a "philosophy", a way of being in the world in the "here and now" and taking "response-aibility" without pushing the river. Thus life is a flow ..

What is GESTALT Art Therapy?

It is the sum of the two previous concepts, Gestal therapy and the use of tools we learn to use in art therapy.

Using the artistic tools and adding the gestalt language between client and psychotherapist we work jointly to decode the messages hidden in the intrinsic symbols representing the client's situation. The Psychotherapist accompanies the client in the process of "discovering" what is helpful and not analysing or interpreting, but suggesting and asking the client what it is he or she knows are the answers and supports client's need to discover the ncessary solutions.

WE ARE SURE THAT YOU WILL BE ATTRACTED by this new way of working with emotions, whether or not you are a professional psychologist or therapist, since many of the exercises can be used personally for your own growth.

Our work is done in Australia & Spain and other countries. We have given workshops and participated in conferences throughout the world. We are located in our offices at the Gestalt Art Therapy Centre in Brisbane -Australia.

BE HAPPY HERE AND NOW..... AND BE CREATIVE !
